Trip to Williamsburg

This weekend was our district meeting for the VFW, held in Williamsburg,NM. Williamsburg is a small town just about 80 miles from Deming, But it is the home of our favorite watering hole. (VFW post 3317). This year, the hosting post for the meeting. Since the “Wrecking Crew” is made up of mostly VFW officers, we have to make these meeting. (You know, like, “HAVE” to)

So we met up and loaded into Hector’s van about 10:00 am and started our trip. (Now think about it, when you have six white people loaded into one Mexican van. (your in trouble).  About 20 miles out of Deming is a small turn off called the Nutt.

Oh we have time the meeting doesn't  start till 1pm.  So why not?

Yep, you guessed it. This is Nutt, NM.

Yes Hector is, our commander.

This is the first time I’ve seen this place open. Tom and Susan are the new managers and we think their doing a great job.

Pam and Tiger are out by the van, waiting for us to get on the road. (After all the meeting will start @ 1pm. (tomorrow).  Tiger found a friend to play with and Pam is on the look out for the Border Patrol.

(We do all we can to protect Hector from the Border Patrol).

Hey! let’s go. (Impatient? Do ya think)?

DSCF0262On the road again, Tiger really likes Mexican food. (Oops! forgot to tell Hector). So we were doing some geocaching on the way. We finally arrive at about 2 pm. (4 hrs not bad time for 80 miles.)

DSCF0224 A nice lunch and a few drinks and we are on our way. (It’s party time).

Since the meeting is now over and the bar run out of our favorite beer. We all took off to the Moose Lodge.  A very nice lodge and the A/C works. It was 108 degrees out side.

(It was 120 in the VFW).

DSCF0236See the difference one day will make. DSCF0243 You can tell it is the next day. This group looks really happy.  However we did have fun, (as always) and we made a lot of good friends along the way.

Now it’s time to go home. It’s Sunday morning and I have a nine ball tourney to run at our own post at 1pm. We should make it back in plenty of time, cause nothing is open till noon on Sunday’s.

DSCF0259 On the way home we passed a drive in.  (Is this guy farsighted or nearsighted?)

DSCF0263 Just as I thought , the tourney is underway and on time.

DSCF0264

Nice to be home as always.

We missed our bartender.

What you say? Halloween is coming up. (Darn! when will the fun ever stop?)

Stay healthy and safe.

Till next time from Tiger and Stu.

Chili Festival

Hatch, New Mexico, began as an adobe post office and a railroad flag station. Named after General Edward Hatch, Commander of the Southwest military, the town grew until a flood in 1921 destroyed many of the adobe buildings constructed of earth and wood.

The village rebuilt, and continues to prosper as an agricultural community to this day. The advent of the nearby Spaceport America, the nation’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport, promises a new chapter in the history of Hatch.

As summer cools down, the Village of Hatch heats up. Labor Day weekend heralds the annual Hatch Chile Festival, a two-day celebration of their world-famous crop. The festival attracts over 30,000 visitors from all over the United States.  Festival goers can sample famed chili recipes, watch the crowning of the chili festival queen, or toss a horseshoe in celebration of their most famous crop. The event also features artisan and food booths, a parade and a carnival.

DSCF0200 You can purchase your chili and or other crops at the chili fest. They will roast your chili for you on the spot. DSCF0201

You can even order your chili’s by the heat factor. Like Med, Hot , Extra hot, and Triple X, Hot.  However I ordered mine Triple X hot and I got med. (I hate it when that happens).

DSCF0204

As you can see even the people dress up like little chili’s. I couldn’t find a costume small enough for Tiger, so he just went as is. …(Nude).

Normally this is a free event. But the City decided to start charging for this event this year and at $10.00 a car load they still had a bumper to bumper line in and out of the town. DSCF0206

This is Uncle Sam and he is big.  He’s right downtown close to the local hamburger stand.

These guys I remember as a young boy. Now you just don’t see them anymore.

DSCF0209You can even get your picture taken with Col. Sanders and/or Ronald Mac Donald.DSCF0207I just can’t figure out what this chicken has to do with Soft Ice Cream. ( maybe it’s a “Hatch” thing).  Tiger and I had a good time in Hatch even though it was quite warm or should I say hot that day.

Till the next time, be healthy and safe. Tiger & Stu
